Perfect pair – hemligheten till att kombinera motiv

Perfect pair – the secret to combining motifs

Sometimes art is at its most beautiful in solitude. And sometimes the motif comes into its own when combined and enhanced with a companion, which together form a perfect pair. So how do you best combine two motifs – and what are our personal favorite posters to match? Here we give you the answers.

To create a successful combination of two motifs, it's all about finding common denominators in color scale, style or proportions. Two posters don't have to be exactly alike – on the contrary, an exciting dynamic can arise from the contrast. But when they share a tone, a line or a design language, a harmonious whole emerges.

    Posters in overall harmony

Choose for yourself whether you want to let the colors repeat; use the same beige tone in both motifs or let a broad grayscale be what connects them. Or focus on the shapes; let abstract shapes go outside and into the frames – or let sheer, hand-sketched lines play the main role twice. Another way to go is to combine motifs where the illustrations themselves are approximately the same size, regardless of what they portray. This creates harmony and balance, even though the motifs “want to be different”.

    Perfect pair at Designed Posters

As a common thread at Designed Posters, we draw strength and inspiration from pleasant yet stylishly playful shapes. Dots, organic lines, illusions and re-narrative photo art; the fact is that many of our motifs can be combined, largely thanks to the earthy color scale that is consistent throughout.
