Templates and tips for the picture wall

When it comes to art walls, planning is one of the biggest steps. Below we have some tips and templates that can help you along the way.

    Distance between the boards

By having about a decimeter of free air between the paintings, you create a sense of space. This helps the eye to separate the motifs and can make the wall of paintings feel calmer. If the paintings are instead placed closer together, the expression will be stronger and the eyes will have more difficulty perceiving the individual motifs.

    Try with masking tape

If you are unsure about how to place your paintings, masking tape is an invaluable tool. With it, you can easily work around by marking the dimensions of the paintings on the wall. You can also cut out the size of your frames on cardboard, and then tape them to the wall. Try to avoid having the same sizes next to each other on the painting wall. This can make it look too symmetrical and easily takes away from the feeling of the motifs. To create a living painting wall, you should also try to mix vertical and horizontal.

    GRID

If you are looking for a clean and stylish look, you should start with the wall as a grid, where the paintings have the same width between each other. Placing the paintings in line with each other creates clarity. You can start from the outer contours of the paintings to create a rectangular template with motifs inside.

    Organic

If you want an organic look instead, you can place the paintings without any lines to follow. This makes the wall feel more alive. It is important to remember here that the space between each painting is somewhere between one to two decimeters in width.

    Centerline

Do you want the paintings to be on just one level; no painting above or below? Then you can arrange the paintings along their center line. Imagine that there is an invisible line that runs through all the paintings in the center. It doesn't matter if the frames are different sizes, the important thing is that the paintings together follow a center line.

Group the paintings into an environment

If the paintings are placed too high up on the wall, they can feel like they have no connection or connection with the rest of the interior and almost seem to float. Therefore, it is good to anchor them to a fixed environment. This does not apply if you want to create a wall from floor to ceiling.
